Privacy
The short version: your knowledge base is plain Markdown in a folder you control. BlackHole is local-first, and you decide what — if anything — leaves your device.
Your notes stay yours
BlackHole writes standard Markdown files to a folder on your own machine. Those files are not stored in a proprietary cloud, and they remain readable in any text editor. You can export, move, or delete them at any time.
AI inference
You choose where inference runs. In local-only mode, nothing leaves your device. In cloud or hybrid mode, the content you ingest or ask about is sent to your chosen model provider (for example, OpenRouter) or — on the Managed plan — to inference we host on your behalf. We send only what's needed to complete the request.
What we collect
The marketing site uses privacy-respecting analytics to understand aggregate traffic. If you join a waitlist or buy a license, we process your email and order details to deliver the product and support it. Payments are handled by Polar, our Merchant of Record.
