Privacy
The short version: your knowledge base is plain Markdown in a folder you control. BlackHole is local-first, and you decide what leaves your device, if anything does.
Your notes stay yours
BlackHole writes standard Markdown files to a folder on your own machine. Those files are not stored in a proprietary cloud, and they remain readable in any text editor. You can export, move, or delete them at any time.
AI inference
You choose where inference runs. In local-only mode, nothing leaves your device. In cloud or hybrid mode, the content you ingest or ask about is sent to your chosen model provider (for example, OpenRouter). On the Managed plan, it goes to inference we host on your behalf. We send only what's needed to complete the request.
What we collect
The marketing site uses privacy-respecting analytics to understand aggregate traffic. If you join a waitlist or buy a license, we process your email and order details to deliver the product and support it. Payments are handled by Polar, our Merchant of Record.
